For the one who…
For the One Who Is Waiting
I've spent a lot of my life in seasons of waiting.
I've waited for biopsy results, wondering whether I had cancer. I've waited to find out whether my unborn baby still had a heartbeat. I've waited for a verdict in a courtroom, and I've spent months wondering whether my dad's stage four cancer would take his life. I've also spent years waiting and hoping for a relationship with one of my children to be restored, wondering if there would ever come a day when we would find our way back to one another.
And through all those different seasons, I've learned something about waiting.
I don't think the hardest part is always how long we have to wait. I think sometimes it's the unknown. It's wondering what life is going to look like when the waiting is finally over.
Because when you don't know what's coming, it's hard to know how to prepare yourself for it. It's hard to know where to put your feet when you can't see what the path looks like in front of you.
But as I look back over those seasons, there's something I've come to recognize.
The wind still blows in the seasons.
Our waiting doesn't stop the world around us. Life continues moving, even when it feels like our own lives are standing still. And I believe God is still at work, even when we can't see what He's doing.
Sometimes when I find myself overthinking everything, I go outside just to feel the wind. There's something about standing there and feeling it move around me that reminds me God is still moving in and through every situation.
I don't know which direction the wind will blow next, and I can't always see where it's going. But I believe God knows. He sees what I cannot see, and He knows where the path leads even when I don't.
And I think that's what I've been learning about waiting. I don't have to know how everything will turn out before I can trust Him with where I'm standing today. When I can't see the path ahead, I can still look to Him.
So, if you have a minute, I want to invite you to step outside and feel the wind. Close your eyes and imagine His breath moving around you. Even if the breeze is faint on this particular day, take a moment to feel it against your skin and remember that your waiting hasn't stopped God from moving.
You may not know which direction your life is going or what it will look like when this season is over, and that's okay. You don't have to figure it all out while you're standing there.
Just feel the wind for a moment.
Eventually, I stop feeling the wind but God never loses sight of its direction.
And remember, in the waiting, YOU are invited to feel the wind.
